Garden Fact Families

Fact families are a great way to practice addition and subtraction fluency with your students. We talk about number relationships a lot and this garden-themed fact family center is a fun way to practice number connections.

Number Order

The garden number order math center has students ordering numbers from least to greatest and greatest to least.

Missing Addends

My students can always use practice with missing addends. This flower pot missing number match is a fun way to review this concept.

Expanded Form

Garden expanded form is an activity that reinforces the understanding of counting tens and ones. I usually have a few students who struggle with this each year, so we review this skill often.

Seed Nonstandard Measurement

Nonstandard measurement is always fun for kids. This seed measurement activity has students using a seed ruler to measure garden-themed pictures. If real seeds are available, you can use them as a measuring tool.

Missing Number Squares

Missing number squares is an activity that reinforces the understanding of place value. Students look at a number and write what 1 less, 1 more, 10 less, and 10 more would be. This is another activity where I provide base ten blocks to help model what each number would be.

Garden Find, Tally, and Graph

Other favorite math activities are find, tally, and Graph activities. Students use a garden-themed collage of pictures as a tool to complete these garden math activities. First, students count the number of each item on the collage sheet. After counting, they can graph their results. They can also tally and solve equations. For a challenge, students can make their own equations for a friend.
