Do you know what today is? It’s opening day! It is one of my favorite times of the year, baseball season. I love watching my son play, going to local AAA games and of course going to major league games. I am an A’s fan, but my boys are Giants fans, so we go to both. Sports are always a big hit in my classroom. Here are some of my favorite baseball books I like to use in the classroom.

I am often able to encourage writing ideas with sports. Many of my students play some sort of a sport during the year and so when I hear, “I don’t know what to write about.” I show them the sports word list and they are inspired.
I also pull out baseball math centers for the math tubs. This is always a big draw for kids.
You can find all of these math activities here in this pack.
I also pull out some pages from the baseball Cut, Do and Glue pack. My kids can always use cutting practice no matter what time of the year!
I have a Pinterest board of sports activities and classroom decor for the classroom. Click below to check it out.
For some of my high, independent readers I pull out the sports close reads and they love them. You can read about how I use them here.
Are you a baseball fan? If so, who is your favorite team? Do you incorporate sports in your classroom?
