Guest Blogging From Texas

Hello everyone!  I am still relaxing with my son on the beach this week, so I have my friend Susan from First Grade Friendly Froggies guest blogging for me today.   Enjoy!
We usually do all of our back to school clothes shopping while we are here. In our little town, we just don’t have very many options. We always make time for the Houston Museum of Natural Science!  My kids request this every summer!

We also love to go to movies while we are here…it’s a break from the heat and the movie theaters here are so great! I love the Draft House Cinemas that offer meals with your movie! We’ve already seen Man of Steel and going to see Monster University this weekend!

And of course some school shopping favorites for me:

Did you notice the image of Hobby Lobby?  I would absolutely go broke if I lived near one!  They have so many cute things to decorate a cute Froggy Classroom!

How adorable is this?  I can think of so many ways to  use this!

I try to balance my summers with family time,  fun and a little bit of school planning! I’ve been reading lots of my favorite blogs and spending too much time on Pinterest :-)!  I love looking forward to the next school year and gathering new ideas for my students and myself!  I also like the extra time during the summer to actually create some new activities for my students.

I have been inspired by my visit to Texas to create a center game for my kids for the beginning of the year.   I begin the year by highlighting one student each day as the “Friendly Frog of the Day”.  I always start off being the “Friendly Frog of the Day” so I can model the routines and activities that come with the honor!  During this time, I’ll let them know a little about myself and introduce a little about my home state.  This game features the state symbols and provides practice with the first 20 dolch sight words.  I think they’ll enjoy the new variation of my “Go Fish” sight word games! I also created a Texas Vocabulary Word Wall that they will be able to use in our writing center!   And here it is  for you enjoy in your classroom!

I plan on using this to accompany a couple of my favorite books!

After reading these to my kiddos, we’ll do some follow up writing activities.  The Texas Word Wall will be perfect to help out my little writers with some vocabulary words from the books!  I hope you’ll find the word wall useful, too!
I want to thank Renee, again, for having me guest blog for her!  I hope you’ll hop over to my blog and visit!  Leave a comment or just say, “Hi!”
Have a great summer!
