One of the benefits of thematic teaching is integrating all subject matters into a unit. During our math and literacy time, I try and add in rainforest-themed activities when I can.

Research and Writing

During our rainforest unit, we work on informational writing. When students have free writing time, I have rainforest words out for them to use to inspire writing.

We also learn how to research and some students choose to research a rainforest animal. Our rainforest animal research pack provides scaffolding to young writers.

If you want to try a performance out, be sure to check out Bald Wolf Press. They have a Rumpus in the Rainforest play that can be adapted to the younger grades that is fun. The music is great!
